I am a pencil, newborn, the first of its kind in the history of thought. My homeland lies deep within slumbering graphite mines and fragrant cedar forests. Within me lives the carbon of the underground world, a quiet cousin to the diamond.

Drawn out by time and air, it settles into a light yet unyielding presence, holding within itself the quiet memory of all it has passed through. Held in heat, broken apart, and pressed into stillness, the layer carries the weight of what it has endured.

Deep along a mountain slope, in a quiet ceramics workshop before a kiln where the straw fire never dies, fragments that never became porcelain and traces of glaze rest in a graveyard of broken vessels, slowly preparing to return to earth.

In every layer of gesso built upon the canvas, something once longed to be painted lies buried: a portrait of her in a powdery light, a still life of fruits glazed with gentle sweetness, a landscape of a velvety field I longed to walk through, none of them ever brought to completion.

A collision of sensations without borders. What meets in tension presses closer, thickening as it gathers, each edge holding its ground. Not in harmony, but in contrast, it deepens into a dense, enveloping presence, where nothing resolves, only accumulates.
